Lightening Streams Review by Real User and Tester. Many TV viewers today are looking to save money when searching for an alternative TV subscription. However, no one wants to lose watching their favorites while saving money. So if you are from the US or someone who wants access to live US channels including all the other streaming content, then perhaps this IPTV service is for you.
I’ll save you from having to read the full review if you are hoping to watch live channels from other countries. I tested different categories of live channels for US, UK, Spanish, French, and Filipino. With the exception of US channels, the global channels did not work for the most part.
But this was during my LighteningStreams review and may not be the case by the time you subscribe to the service. Those global channels may work when you entering into the subscription or trial. Nevertheless, you can always contact their support (chat agent) to ask the question if this is something that interests you.
For an IPTV with many more global channels where most work, you might want to take a look HERE. If not, just keep reading this Lightening Streams review to learn more. USA and English-speaking individuals are clearly the winners here when using this IPTV service.
In a hurry…
NOTE: Free Trial comes and goes. If you see it, take advantage of it to test everything on your compatible device.
Live Channels Delivered
You get access to both live and on-demand streams. There are 100s of live channels and 1000s of VODs. Live channels include premium, local, global, music, and gospel. You get many of the major television networks with news, movies, sports, news, kids, and other channels. There are over one hundred US channels available to watch online.
When opening the SO Player, you will come to the Home screen displaying categories of streaming content as such… Home | TV | Movies | TV Shows [no content] | CatchUps | EPG | Settings |. When clicking the TV section, you get access to all live TV channels broken down into sub-categories as such…
All | English | USA | Local | Sports | NHL | MLB | NBA | NFL | NCAA | ESPN+ | US Open | Gospel | Spanish | French | UK | Filipino | Adult [locked by default] | All Day | Music Channels
Clicking any one of those sub-categories of channels above will display a host of channels inside by name. The app has a very attractive layout, not links as it would appear in what I listed above. It has a very different look. I’m just giving you an idea of how the streaming content is organized for your convenience.
There’s a search tool icon (magnifying glass) available for you to search and find a network name or your city for local TV channels. However, I would not rely on any IPTV provider to watch your local OTA TV channels online. I tell you what you can do to get those channels further down.
On-Demand Streaming Content Delivered
Further, into my Lightening Streams review, I went into the Movies category. But before I take you there, another category for TV Shows had no content. It appears this IPTV service decided to put all the on-demand streaming content under the Movies section which includes the following:
- TV Series w/ seasons & episodes
- Movies w/ genres & new releases
Here’s a full list of sub-categories included…
Last Added | New Releases | TV Shows (seasons & episodes) | Action | Family | Comedy | Classic | Thriller | Horror |
Romance | Drama | Sci-Fi | Documentary | Christmas | PPV Events | Workout | NFL | Limetowm | Sports | Biography
You can add any VOD to favorites but this feature is not available for live channels which to me would have been more interesting. There’s a search tool (magnifying glass icon) that allows you to search by title.
Content Delivery, Interfacing, Picture Quality
I have determined that Lightening Streams is great for newbies. The SOPlay app is easy to install to compatible devices (more on this later), easy navigation inside the app, and steaming content very well organized. You can search and find what you’re looking for and want to watch online without using the search tool.
How the app works with the IPTV service is seamless. No user manual is needed. Live channels load and play quickly as well as the VOD movie or TV series but not as fast as live channels load and play. You get HD (1080p) picture quality, perhaps FHD as well. I have a Firestick 4k and LG smart TV 4k. The picture quality and audio are great.
Lightening Streams & App Performance
When talking about performance, there are always two sides to this. One is what occurs on the TV viewer’s end and the other is the IPTV with the app end. First, you need to check that your end is good so that you don’t get a lot of buffering issues. You should have a least 30 Mbps of High-Speed Internet and more or faster the better.
For your primary way of watching TV online, most will use an HDTV with a compatible streaming device such as the Firestick or smart TV. You need to make a hardwire connection by using an Ethernet cable. This gives you the fastest Internet speed compared to wireless (WiFi) connection.
Have your primary device connected via Ethernet cable and all other devices connected wirelessly. You can connect 3 devices in-home and 1 smartphone out-of-home (WiFi). I purchased an adapter from Amazon so that I could connect my Ethernet cable to my Firestick which connects to the back of my TV. Now, with that out of the way, let’s move on.
No IPTV service is flawless. There will always be some buffering but you don’t want consistently buffering. It’s my job to find an IPTV service with very limited buffering that comes and goes for some channels. I have 4k LG and Samsung smart TVs including 4k Firesticks. However, only my living room smart TV (primary device) is connected via Ethernet.
Comcast gives me over 200 Mbps Internet connection speed but never do I get that amount for each device I use. It will be the same thing for you. If you consistently get buffering, I not would blame the IPTV service just yet. Instead, click HERE to watch the how-to eliminate buffering before contacting Lightening Streams support.
You can forget about using any gaming devices including Chromecast, Roku. They are not compatible devices. Any device you don’t see listed below is not compatible. Here’s the list of devices you can use, up to 4 connections:
SOPlayer was removed from the Google Play Store but not from the Apple Play Store. What this means is Windows, Android devices, and tablet users CANNOT download the free app. Sadly enough those devices can no longer be used
- NVIDIA Shield
- Apple TV
- iOS Devices (iPhone, iPad, iPod)
- Android Devices (Box, TV, smartphone)
- Amazon (Fire TV & Firestick)
- Computers (Mac & Windows)
- Smart TVs w/ Internal App Store (LG & Samsung)
You can download and install the free SOPlayer app first if you want. For most compatible devices, it can be quick and easy. Fire TV and Firesticks devices, on the other hand, will require extra steps. But don’t worry the instructions with steps are pretty straightforward. Just click the button further up to watch the video that takes you to our How-To video site. You will find more links to videos in the article posts below the main video. One shows how to install SOPlayer.
The app is just a free app download. You DO NOT need to sign up, a subscription, or pay anything to install it. Once the app is installed on the compatible device, it won’t deliver any streaming content by itself for you to watch online. What you need to do is get an IPTV subscription such as, LighteningStreams. Either opt into the trial or subscription.
The IPTV service will email your activation/login credentials which includes the following:
- 4 Device Pin Codes
- Provider ID
Of course, you will get other info in your emails regarding your order and IPTV account. Just remember your IPTV service provider’s name which in this case would be Lightening Streams. Once you entered the required activation credentials inside the app, you’ll have access and can start watching TV online.
Also, make certain you entered the correct email address when signing up. You can renew your subscription when going back to their website to sign into your IPTV account. If you don’t see any emails from the IPTV provider, be sure to look in your Spam/Junk mail folder.
Lightening Streams Pros & Cons
The SOPlay app works seamlessly when connected to the IPTV service. Live channels load and play quickly as well as VOD content. Newbies will find it easy to navigate, find what they are looking for, and start watching immediately. The streaming content is well organized with a very attractive display. You can use the search tool or simply navigate to any direction and scroll right/left or up/down to see what’s there.
There are all kinds of live channels available to watch movies, TV shows, sports, news, and much more including VOD movies, TV series, and some VOD sports. The free trial gives full access to anything to test up to 4 devices. Not only can each household member watch something different from the other but there’s streaming content for everyone including the kids.
Getting set up and installing the free SO Player app is easy. Depending on what compatible device you are going to use, you can do one of two things: 1) Visit the Google or Apple Play Store via a web browser to install the app; 2) You can do the same thing if your device has an external app store. Fire TV and Firestick users can find the SOPlay app inside the Amazon Store.
Unfortunately, at the time of my review of Lightening Streams, many or all live channels from other countries (does not include the US) did not work. There were other sections of channels that didn’t work also such as, All Day, Music & Gospel channels. More than likely the Lightening IPTV service is already aware of the issue and working on a fix. Or, they could be waiting for more subscribers that want access to the other global channels.
Still, global channels should be working since they have the content included. You cannot add any live channels to favorites but you can add VOD to favorites. This IPTV has an IP Lock system which means you cannot use a VPN service to hide your IP address. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
There are 100s if not 1000s of people using these IPTV services today and I have been one of them. No issue.
If you were hoping there would be a record or PIP feature, sadly it’s not available. Also, no IPTV service should be relied on to deliver all your local TV channels. Many of them will have 3 or 4 of your local channels from the US or none at all. Out of the channels you do get, very seldom do all of them work. I suggest another way to watch local TV channels.
Despite some of the downsides, I gave LighteningStreams a thumbs up. This service works well for the USA and English-speaking individuals. I am very familiar with SO Play IPTV services like this one and know that it can deliver those non-working channels. You can always contact their website chat agent to get an update on those global channels if they are still not working.
Everything else worked very well so I have no complaints. If you are searching for a low-cost, very simple way to watch many of your favorites online, then this service should fulfill your needs. Sports fans can get all live sports they want including seasonal sports and VOD fights/boxing/NFL games.
If the free trial is available, take advantage of it to test everything on your compatible device. If you click the button further up to see everything in action and watch streaming content play, you may decide to just get the subscription and the trial.
This Concludes My Lightening Streams Review.
